A Glimpse Inside a Real, Raw, and Messy Life
Hi! My name is Abby. I’m a 34-year-old woman, married to the love of my life, and a proud stepmom to a wonderful stepdaughter. From the outside, I’m probably a pretty typical 34-year-old. I have a happy life, great friends, a loving family, a job I love, a cozy home, and a sweet little Red Heeler who keeps life interesting.
Looking from the outside in, my life probably looks good and pleasant—and honestly, for the most part, it is.
But just like everyone else, my life has messy parts, too.
The point of this blog is to share how I feel, tell my story, and hopefully connect with people along the way. I’ve always struggled sometimes to find the right words for what’s going on inside my head and my heart. I’ve found that writing—whether it’s with a pen and paper or, in this case, a keyboard—is where I go on the days I feel sad, lost, scared, overwhelmed, or confused.
Alongside all of the beautiful parts of my life, I’ve also found myself walking through some things I never could have imagined.
I was 29 years old when my mom was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. In many ways, my role slowly began to change from daughter to caretaker. Her diagnosis came in 2021, and just one month before that, one of my triplet brothers was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
Talk about a double whammy.
There are days when I feel like I’m carrying more than I know how to hold. There are days when I’m angry, days when I’m heartbroken, days when I’m scared of what the future holds, and days when I simply don’t know what to feel. But there are also days filled with laughter, love, gratitude, and little moments that remind me that life is still beautiful.
I’m learning that both things can exist at the same time.
You can be deeply heartbroken and still be happy. You can be exhausted and still be grateful. You can love your family fiercely while struggling with everything that comes with loving them. And you can have a beautiful life while still carrying some really heavy things.
I created this space as a place to be honest about all of it—the good, the bad, the messy, and everything in between.
If you’re walking a hard road of your own, or if you’re navigating something that feels a little too familiar, I hope you find a little comfort here. Maybe you’ll see a piece of your own story in mine, or maybe you’ll simply feel a little less alone.
I truly believe there is always some light to be found in the darkness.
This is just my story.
Thank you for being here and following along. ❤️
